Hi, my name is Lindsay and I’m a therapist working privately in Herefordshire and Monmouth offering psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families.
People everywhere can experience challenges in life, especially when it comes to their close relationships, and this is where I may be able to help.
I offer short and long-term therapy, according to your needs, generally face to face but I can see you online if it's more convenient for you.
What is therapy?
Therapy provides you with a unique space to explore the difficult thoughts and emotions that may be impacting currently on your own experience of life and potentially that of those you are in relationship with.
Through therapy you can make changes to enable you to develop a greater understanding of yourself and the situation you find yourself in.
You may be drawn to therapy for a range of reasons. It may be that you are experiencing distress because of a life event or job situation, the stage of life you are at, because a relationship is challenging or maybe you don’t have a clear understanding of why you’re struggling. My hope is that we can work together to help you to find the best way forward.
Meet Lindsay
With a qualification in Systemic & Family Psychotherapy as well as a Diploma in Systemic Supervision, I am trained to work with individuals of all ages, including young people, couples and groups.
As well as working privately, I also work for part of my week in an NHS Children & Young People’s Mental Health Service.
I have a qualifying Masters gained at the Institute of Family Therapy and a Diploma in Systemic Supervision gained at South West London & St Georges (Prudence Skynner) and am registered with both the UKCP and the Association for Family & Systemic Psychotherapy.
I have many years of experience working in NHS mental health services with families, couples and individuals, as well as in a therapy & counselling service based in a community setting.
How will we work together?
In the first instance we can arrange an initial 20-minute appointment to get to know each other a bit and see whether we both think we can work together. There will be no charge for this appointment.
My understanding is that I, as a qualified psychotherapist, have several years of training, expertise and life experience to bring to the work but that you have the most knowledge about your life, context and relationships and will best know how change might unfold for you. For this reason, I will be guided by you and those you bring with you, working collaboratively session by session, taking things at your pace and exploring the areas that are most important for you at each point in the therapy.
My approach is based on my own therapeutic experiences as a therapist but also as a human being. I know the importance of being warm, approachable and authentic so that we can build a confidential and supportive relationship, as we embark on the work which will serve to support you in recognising, and giving space to the difficult emotions and thoughts and relationship dynamics which may be challenging to understand and talk about.
We can explore how the past may be impacting on your present, and unconsciously impacting your relationships, your values and your wellbeing.
As well as systemic approaches I can also draw on cognitive behavioural therapies to help identify unhelpful thinking styles, looking at your behaviours and working collaboratively to facilitate the changes you want.
Finding the right therapist is really important, and I hope my website will help you decide whether we can work together because my belief is that the therapeutic relationship is key to change and to feeling heard, supported, understood and empowered to overcome whatever challenges you are experiencing.
I am experienced in working with clients and groups of clients on a range of issues, including: Anger, Anxiety, Bereavement, Career Challenges, Cultural issues, Depression, Family Issues, Parent-child relationships, Couple relationships, Identity issues, Infertility, Self esteem, Loss, Menopause, Panic Attacks, Self Harm, Stress and more.
I can also offer Systemic Supervision to those in training or those already qualified and working as a Systemic & Family Psychotherapist.
Some questions you might ask
-
Yes, therapy is a safe, confidential space where you speak openly about your difficulties in the knowledge that what you share won’t be disclosed to anyone. The only exceptions are that I talk with my supervisor about my clients as we think together about how best to support you.
The other exception would be if I was worried about your safety or that of anyone in your network. Even then, other than in an emergency, I would normally do this in collaboration with you.
-
There is no one size fits all when it comes to the number of sessions.
It depends on your personal situation and we will discuss this at the start of our work together and in regular check-ins along the way.
I work flexibly and most important is that you are happy with the regularity and pace of sessions.
-
Appointments generally currently cost £60 for an individual hour-long session, payable online 24 hours in advance in order to confirm the session.
For couple and family therapy, I charge £80 per hour, again payable online 24 hours ahead of the session.
I’m aware it can feel like a brave step to make contact and start to explore therapy.
Contacting me by email in the first instance is completely without obligation and simply leads to me getting back to you to arrange to meet and have an initial chat.
I look forward to meeting you!
